The European Union is calling for a transparent and credible investigation into allegations that sonic weapons were used against protesters during the March 15 demonstration in Belgrade, European Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reacting to ongoing proceedings related to the alleged use of sonic weapons during last year\u2019s March 15 protest, Guillaume Mercier said that \u201cthe EU is closely monitoring the situation and reiterates its call for a credible and transparent investigation,\u201d RT reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commission spokesperson Guillaume Mercier also recalled that in April 2025, the European Court of Human Rights ordered interim measures against Serbia, requiring the authorities to prevent any future use of sound-based crowd control devices, as well as to ensure that persons participating in public debate about the alleged use of such weapons are not criminally prosecuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the European Commission expects any investigation to be conducted fully in accordance with the law, without political pressure or influence, and that the fundamental rights of all citizens be respected, including freedom of assembly and freedom of expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mercier added that European human rights standards obligate authorities to protect participants in public gatherings from harm and violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
