Milomir Ja\u0107imovi\u0107, a transport operator from Novi Sad, was sent this morning to the District Prison in Klisa, his son Milan confirmed to Nova.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My father received a court order this morning instructing him to report to the District Prison in Novi Sad, the prison in Klisa, and we are here now,” Milomir’s son Milan told us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He briefly explained that the sentence is related to incidents in Belgrade when their buses were confiscated. Ja\u0107imovi\u0107 was ordered to serve the sentence due to unpaid misdemeanor fines, which he claims he was not properly informed about in a timely manner and therefore refuses to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As his attorney, Petar Preli\u0107, previously told FoNet, Ja\u0107imovi\u0107 received an order from the Misdemeanor Court to report for the execution of a sentence due to an unpaid financial penalty. Because of this, he was scheduled to appear before a misdemeanor judge in \u017dabalj today to receive instructions regarding the enforcement of the sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Preli\u0107 stated that the decision to serve the sentence was entirely Ja\u0107imovi\u0107’s own choice and added that his client had previously paid fines imposed on him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the attorney, the disputed penalties stem from misdemeanor proceedings initiated after the events of November 1 last year, when court summonses and decisions were sent to Ja\u0107imovi\u0107’s home address while he was on a hunger strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The mail was returned, after which the documents were posted on the court notice board and were considered legally delivered. We only learned about those proceedings around a month ago, when all deadlines for appeals and other legal remedies had already expired,” Preli\u0107 told FoNet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to him, the only remaining options are for the court to postpone the execution of the sentence or for Ja\u0107imovi\u0107 to settle the debts. However, it appears that he is determined not to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, police officers also came to Ja\u0107imovi\u0107’s home. At the time, the younger Ja\u0107imovi\u0107 explained that they arrived because Milomir had not been reporting regularly to the authorities. According to his son, Milomir himself was unaware that he was required to do so, and when he saw police officers at his door, he felt unwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To recall, Milomir Ja\u0107imovi\u0107 is a transport operator from Novi Sad who gained public sympathy for his selfless assistance to students and citizens protesting against the government of President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107. As a result, he has repeatedly found himself targeted by the authorities, with his buses being confiscated and even set on fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
