A member of the Serbian Armed Forces, Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanovi\u0107, who was engaged as part of the United Nations peacekeeping forces in Lebanon, passed away this morning from injuries caused by a missile striking the UN base where the peacekeeping forces, including a part of the Serbian contingent, are stationed, the Ministry of Defense announced.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Following his wounding, Staff Sergeant Jovanovi\u0107 was provided with emergency medical assistance at the hospital inside the base, and was then transported by helicopter to the university medical center in Beirut, where he passed away around 04:00 local time,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two other members of the international forces were injured in the attack – one from the armed forces of the Republic of El Salvador and one from the armed forces of the Kingdom of Spain, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanovi\u0107 was born on June 6, 1989, in Kraljevo. He is survived by his wife and two minor children. He had been serving in the Serbian Armed Forces since December 10, 2011, and in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon since January of this year, according to the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister of Defense, Bratislav Ga\u0161i\u0107, and the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilovi\u0107, sent, as added, telegrams of condolence to the family of the tragically deceased member of the Serbian Armed Forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
