After recently running the Tokyo Marathon, eighty-three-year-old doctor from Pirot Vladimir Savi\u0107 won one of the most important recognitions \u2013 the “Six Star” medal. He is one of the few runners in the world who succeeded in doing this in their ninth decade. Vladimir has been living in Slovenia for a long time, but the most beautiful tracks for him are still in his native village of Krupac, near Pirot.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

With pride on his chest, he wears a medal that is not only a confirmation that he ran six of the biggest and most important marathons in the world, but also a symbol of victory over oneself. The marathon, says Vladimir, is a confirmation of perseverance and a triumph of personal will, and he does not stop here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In August, I am going to Australia, to Sydney, to run a marathon there, then next summer to Cape Town in South Africa, that would be the eighth, and then to Shanghai. That would be the ninth marathon, and I would get a medal with 9 of such,” says Dr. Vladimir Savi\u0107, marathon runner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 30 years of running experience, he ran 141 marathons and participated in about 900 competitions. This requires serious preparations, for which his medical knowledge and experience help him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Vladimir Savi\u0107 says that he runs differently every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On the weekend, I run between 30 and 40 km. Mondays are for a recovery run, half an hour. On Tuesday, it’s interval training at the stadium. On Wednesdays, I run 20 km each, Thursdays 5-6 km, and Friday is running at a marathon pace,” he explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And he started running completely by accident, only in the 54th year of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I never thought about running. I didn’t know about running. When I was 54 years old, I saw that I was overweight, my stomach went forward a bit, and then I decided to somehow reduce that. Good health means the most. I maintain a normal body weight and I feel good,” points out the elderly marathon runner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vladimir Savi\u0107 shared his experiences in the book “Running and Health”. And to the question of until when he will run marathons, he answers: “As long as possible. To 100 and back.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
