The reason for the address, as he explained, was the reaction of a part of the Montenegrin public and media to his statement that he wishes Montenegro all the luck and success, but that he does not want to attend the glamorous celebration of Independence Day.

In the text, Vučić stated that he did not offend anyone with that statement, that he did not utter a single bad word, nor did he threaten anything, but that, as he assessed, just a few hours later he was exposed to attacks in almost all Montenegrin media because, as he wrote, as the president of Serbia, he has no right to his free stance, his opinion, and acting differently from what is expected.

“Only a few hours were needed for the guardians of Montenegrin and Greater-Montenegrin thought to, for the umpteenth time, find the culprit for everything in me,” stated the president of Serbia in the op-ed for “Borba”.

He emphasized that, as he wrote, this is not about him personally, but about Serbia and the daily attacks on Serbia, the country he loves most in the world. He added that he does not mind that some other people have the same attitude towards Montenegro, but he said that, for the sake of truth, he wants to present facts, and not, as he stated, clichés.

Vučić divided his address into five sections, from claims about alleged Serbian pressure on Montenegrin independence, through questions of territorial integrity, Serbia’s attitude towards Montenegro, the European path, to Belgrade’s expectations from Podgorica.

In the first point, the president of Serbia looked back on what he stated were decades of accusations that Serbia meddles in the internal affairs of Montenegro, that it exerts political pressure on Podgorica, wishes to expand its territory, and threatens Montenegrin statehood. According to his words, Serbia accepted all decisions of the citizens of Montenegro in a democratic and civilized manner — from the dissolution of the common state, through the results of the referendum, to Montenegro’s entry into NATO.

“Your right, your decisions. We are different, it is true,” said Vučić, adding that Serbia did not mind that Montenegro was going its own way, because Belgrade, as he stated, perceived Montenegro as a sister and brother and wanted to live in the same state with it.

He added that Serbia is also not bothered by Montenegro being proud of its NATO membership, but that Belgrade is bothered when Serbia’s right to protect and defend its own country by itself is not understood, to not forget the suffering of its people and children during the bombing of the FR Yugoslavia, and to remain militarily neutral.

In the continuation of the text for “Borba”, Vučić assessed that there is constant talk in the Montenegrin public sphere about the alleged meddling of Serbia, while, as he stated, at the same time a large part of that sphere deals precisely with Serbia. As an example, he cited the “Jovanjica” case, for which he assessed that it received more attention in Montenegro than the crimes of the Kavač and Škaljari clans.

The president of Serbia also mentioned what he stated was the provision of a complete media-political platform for conducting a color revolution in Serbia, as well as the presence of Montenegrin politicians at demonstrations against the government in Serbia. According to his assessment, this was not something that Serbia did to Montenegro, but vice versa.

In the second point, Vučić raised the question of whether Serbia threatened the territorial integrity of Montenegro, or if, as he stated, Montenegro threatened the territorial integrity of Serbia. He pointed out that Serbia never questioned the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Montenegro, while Podgorica, just two years after leaving the state union, recognized the independence of the so-called Kosovo.

“Namely, Serbia respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Montenegro and has never questioned it. At the same time, just two years after leaving the state union with Serbia, Montenegro tears down and violates the United Nations Charter and participates in the seizure of Kosovo and Metohija from Serbia by recognizing the independence of Kosovo,” Vučić stated.

He added that it is expected of Serbia, as he assessed, to be happy because of this and never say anything. He particularly criticized what he stated were those politicians from Podgorica who lecture Serbia on patriotism and Kosovo, while at the same time not questioning Montenegro’s decision to recognize Kosovo’s independence.

Vučić pointed out that Serbia did not seize 14 percent of Montenegrin territory, did not ask for Pljevlja, nor Berane, nor any other place in Montenegro, nor will it do so. On the other hand, he stated that Montenegro recognized Prizren, Gračanica, Dečani, and the Patriarchate of Peć as part of another, and not the Serbian state.

“And we are not complaining, we still love you and perceive you as brothers, just do not tell us that we are taking something from you,” said the president of Serbia.

In the third point, Vučić stated that Serbia has never, neither indirectly nor directly, accused Montenegro or anyone in Montenegro of genocide, while, as he wrote, politicians from Montenegro brought resolutions on genocide allegedly committed by Serbs three times.

He reminded that Serbia believes that Zoran Gopčević deserved to have the swimming pool bear his name, that the victims of the Lora camp deserve justice, as well as that Serbia is not asking Montenegro for the school ship “Jadran”, which, as he stated, was built by King Aleksandar, nor for Prevlaka.

In the same part of the text, Vučić stated that Serbia, despite everything, will not change its friendly and brotherly policy towards Montenegro, even when, as he wrote, Montenegrin officials tell foreigners that they will never give the port of Bar to Serbia to manage, regardless of the investment offer, even though, according to his assessment, it is clear that this port can economically survive only if Serbia relies on it.

In the fourth point, which relates to the European path, the president of Serbia said that he wishes Montenegro every success, although, as he stated, every meeting of Montenegrin officials begins and ends with pointing out the differences between Montenegro and Serbia.

He stated that Serbia is often presented as a country under the malignant influence of Russia because it did not introduce sanctions against Moscow, as well as that it is emphasized that Serbia is very large, so Europe would have to give it a lot of money through funds, while, as he ironically wrote, it is convenient when someone is small.

“We wish you all the luck in Europe, in NATO, everywhere you want. And we will congratulate you on everything. And rejoice in your successes. Just do not force us to rejoice in a policy and the results of a policy that is directed against Serbia and the Serbian people. We are many things, but we are not masochists,” Vučić stated.

In the fifth point, the president of Serbia emphasized that Belgrade respects and will respect Montenegro and its citizens. He reiterated that Montenegro left the common family and that Serbia respects that decision.

The only thing that Serbia asks for, as he stated, is that Montenegro show respect towards one-third of its population in matters of the Serbian language and Serbian national emblems, at least as much as it shows towards members and political representatives of the peoples whom Vučić called associate brothers and helpers on the European path.

“Just that. And nothing more,” said the president of Serbia.

Vučić ended the op-ed on the portal “Borba” with the message: “May the friendship between Serbia and Montenegro live!”

MORE TOPICS:

KARADŽIĆ REQUESTS TRANSFER TO THE HAGUE PRISON: Defense claims that in Britain he is being denied health care and his basic rights are being violated!

VASA MICIĆ BEFORE THE FIBA COURT: Former agent is suing the Serbian playmaker over the transfer from the NBA to Hapoel!

“AN UNNECESSARY BLOW TO INTERSTATE RELATIONS”: Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and Montenegro went to war over Vučić’s statement!

SERBIAN CAUCUS IN THE US CONGRESS RECEIVED REINFORCEMENTS: Here are the two new members who will represent the interests of Serbia in the USA!

A FEAT THAT MELTS HEARTS: Four friends on bicycles traveled 500 kilometers to Hilandar to consecrate an icon for children with developmental disabilities!

SERBIA HAS A EUROPEAN TAEKWONDO CHAMPION: Stefan won gold in Munich!

Source: Politika; Photo: ATA Images

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, addressed the citizens of Montenegro with an op-ed published on the Podgorica portal “Borba”, in which he responded to what he stated were years of lies about Serbia, its leadership, and Belgrade’s relationship with Podgorica.
