The defense of the first president of Republika Srpska, Radovan Karad\u017ei\u0107, intends to submit a request to the Hague Mechanism for Karad\u017ei\u0107 to be transferred from the British prison to the Hague prison.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyer Goran Petronijevi\u0107, a member of the defense team, tells “Novosti” that he does not want to speculate on the date of sending this request, but that it will be sent “when the conditions are met.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Petronijevi\u0107 says that no one has seen Karad\u017ei\u0107 for five years now and that his health condition is not good, while in the prison on the Isle of Wight they are denying him medical care and violating his human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Karad\u017ei\u0107’s health condition is periodically better, but that is by no means an improvement, but rather a temporary halt in the tendency of deterioration,” the lawyer explained. “Karad\u017ei\u0107 does not have good conditions in the British prison on the Isle of Wight, in fact, he has very poor medical care, and he is a chronic patient. We are fighting as much as we can. If this matter related to General Ratko Mladi\u0107 is resolved, we would at least like to have Karad\u017ei\u0107 returned to The Hague, if nothing else.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the prison on the Isle of Wight, which has a reputation as one of the worst correctional institutions in Great Britain and does not meet numerous conditions stipulated by standards in most European countries, the first president of Republika Srpska has been serving his sentence since May 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyer Petronijevi\u0107 says that conditions in the Hague detention unit are somewhat better than in other prisons such as the British ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, which is the legal successor to the Hague Tribunal, is competent for the serving, that is, the monitoring of the serving of prison sentences of the Hague convicts. They decide on that and we will address them,” Petronijevi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
