Desimir Selimovi\u0107 Desko, a hero from Kosare, was wounded as a fighter of the 52.bVP at the watchtower on April 12, 1999, and two days later NATO bombs hit the medical vehicle in which he was being transported to the hospital near Gjakova. He was only 21 years old.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the Association of Veterans of Security Organs and Military Police of Serbia and former members of the 52.bVP paid tribute to the hero on the anniversary of his death at his family home in the village of Veliki Izvor near Zaje\u010dar, and what followed after that confirmed that the camaraderie forged in battle is unbreakable, steadfast, and made of steel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing that the family lived in an old dilapidated house and in scarcity, a decision was made at the Executive Board of the association to help the Selimovi\u0107s. They launched a humanitarian action, and in less than ten days, they returned to Desko’s home and brought the most necessary life provisions, a washing machine, and a refrigerator, while the veterans of the 52.bVP also paid off the outstanding utility debts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a moving moment, and the tears and gratitude of the Selimovi\u0107s showed that these honorable people were overwhelmed by the unexpected empathy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When a poor Romani family is told “you are not alone anymore,” it is much more than a courteous statement or handed-over material aid. It is their newly awakened faith in the existence of human kindness, solidarity, and humanity that has not faded even 27 years after the loss of their Desimir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The representative of the Association stated that since its founding, they have adhered to a set vow\u2014that no veteran, no sacrifice given for the Fatherland, will be forgotten or neglected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
