Two Serbian doctors will examine the former commander of the Army of the Republika Srpska, General Ratko Mladi\u0107, on Wednesday, April 22, in the prison of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague (ICTY) because his health condition has deteriorated, stated Mladi\u0107’s son Darko.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I am flying to The Hague tomorrow. Serbian Minister of Justice Nenad Vuji\u0107 will also visit General Mladi\u0107 separately tomorrow as a representative of the Serbian government. A cardiologist and a neurologist from Serbia are going to The Hague on Tuesday, April 21, where they will be able to examine him on Wednesday, April 22. His condition has worsened,” said Darko Mladi\u0107, as reported by the SRNA agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that his father is extremely weak, has difficulty speaking, and cannot get up or sit on the bed by himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prison documentation also confirms a very serious deterioration in Mladi\u0107’s health condition, and the family is currently waiting for a response from the ICTY to a request from Russia and Serbia sent to the UN Security Council for his release on medical grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In December, Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Maria Zabolotskaya, requested at a UN Security Council meeting that Ratko Mladi\u0107 be transferred to Serbia to serve his sentence or be released on humanitarian grounds so that he could spend the rest of his life with appropriate palliative care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ratko Mladi\u0107 has suffered at least two strokes in prison and has undergone surgery several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Mladi\u0107 was arrested in 2011; in November 2017, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia \/ICTY\/ found him guilty on 10 out of 11 counts of the indictment and sentenced him to life imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
