President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he is ready for a ceasefire within the “Easter truce,” reports The Moscow Times.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ukraine has stated several times that we are ready for reciprocal steps. We proposed a ceasefire during the Easter holidays this year and we will act accordingly,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, he stated that Russia “has a chance not to return to strikes” even after Easter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before that, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin unilaterally declared an “Easter truce” that will last from 4 p.m. on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12, the Kremlin announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Putin, among other things, ordered the Russian army to “suspend combat operations in all directions,” but called for them to be ready to “prevent possible provocations by the opponent, as well as any of his aggressive actions.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We proceed from the fact that the Ukrainian side will follow the example of the Russian Federation,” the Kremlin emphasized. Zelenskyy was the first to propose declaring a ceasefire for the Easter period on March 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, he emphasized that “normal people, who respect life, talk about a ceasefire for a lifetime, and not for a few days.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kremlin first announced that they had not seen a “clearly formulated” proposal from the Ukrainian president regarding the suspension of combat operations. The spokesperson for the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, stated that “the Kyiv regime desperately needs a truce” because “Russian troops \u2014 somewhere faster, somewhere slower, but along the entire front line are advancing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A day earlier, on April 9, Peskov said that Putin had not yet made a final decision on a possible truce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During 2025, Putin also unilaterally declared a suspension of combat operations for Easter. Then, the truce also lasted a day and a half. The parties to the conflict accused each other of numerous violations of the truce, but the intensity of the fighting during that period was significantly reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last time a truce between Ukraine and Russia was in effect was from January 25 to February 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It referred to strikes on energy facilities and was declared by US President Donald Trump, who stated after the end of the ceasefire regime that Putin “kept his word” and did not carry out strikes on the Ukrainian energy sector during the period of severe frosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
