At today’s session, the Government of Serbia formed the Council for Child Rights as a mechanism for the protection and realization of children’s rights, the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography announced.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister of Family Welfare and Demography Jelena Zaric Kovacevic was appointed as the president of the Council, while expert and administrative-technical support to this body, according to the Government’s Decision on establishment, is provided by the Ministry of Family Welfare and Demography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Among the Council’s most important tasks is to monitor the application of regulations in the field of realization and protection of children’s rights, to propose and give opinions with the aim of amending and supplementing existing regulations and adopting new ones, as well as to consider the application of confirmed international treaties in the field of children’s rights and to provide proposals for improving their application,” the ministry stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they noted, the council will consider the application of public policy documents in the field of prevention and protection of children from violence, the General Protocol for the Protection of Children from Violence, and the achievement of an intersectoral and multidisciplinary approach in the promotion, prevention, and protection of children’s rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In this way, an institutional structure has been established for the continuous development and protection of children’s rights, the improvement of intersectoral dialogue, monitoring progress in the field of children’s rights, and improving the legal framework and public policies related to children’s rights,” the ministry stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to them, representatives of ministries, representatives of civil society, and the academic community will participate in the work of the Council, which, in addition to the president and secretary, consists of 23 other members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The Council will have a significant coordinating and advisory role, both in the process of drafting the new Program for the Prevention and Protection of Children from Violence \u2013 including the consideration and validation of key phases of the process \u2013 and in the broader monitoring of its implementation, as well as the state of children’s rights and all other relevant policies and measures implemented in this field,” the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
