From the Sava River this morning, 30 citizens of Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh were rescued from the severe consequences of hypothermia, announced the Vice President of the Croatian Government and Minister of Police, Davor Bo\u017einovi\u0107.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bo\u017einovi\u0107 confirmed that they attempted to cross the border illegally and were found in an extremely inaccessible and flooded area between \u0160titar and Babina Greda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Eight migrants have been hospitalized in hospitals in Vinkovci, Vukovar, and Slavonski Brod, while an administrative procedure is being conducted for the others at the \u017dupanja police station to determine their identities and the circumstances of the crossing,” said Bo\u017einovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that police helicopters and drones currently do not spot new persons in the water, but the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service is continuing a foot search of the terrain to remove any doubt about possible remaining persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If it hadn’t been for such a rapid coordinated action that started in the early hours, specifically after midnight, the consequences would surely have been far more severe and possibly with a large number of human casualties,” said Bo\u017einovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although it is assumed that the migrants crossed the river with the help of smugglers, the police will determine the exact details of the method of crossing and potential helpers through a criminal investigation, Bo\u017einovi\u0107 concluded, as reported by Hina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
