Lawyer Jugoslav Tintor, legal representative of the Rector of the University of Belgrade Vladan \u0110oki\u0107, said today that during the nine-hour search of the Rectorate building, the police did not find anything that is the subject of a criminal offense, nor does he see any basis for initiating any criminal proceedings against the rector.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tintor reminded that officers of the Criminal Police Directorate, together with two prosecutors from the Higher Court in Belgrade, based on a search warrant from a judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade, performed a search of the entire Rectorate, specifically the Captain Mi\u0161a’s Mansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were about thirty inspectors and they searched everything from the basement to the attic, every room, he stated, adding that the entire process lasted more than nine hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Everything they deemed necessary to seize from the items, they seized and compiled records and issued certificates for the seized items,” said Tintor, who emphasizes that not a single item found and seized is illegal, nor was anything found that is the subject of a criminal offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A huge amount of items taken away is related to the student movement and it is practically visible that what they took was related to the student movement, specifically that period \u2013 starting from banners, to medical equipment, posters, flyers, everything \u2013 everything was seized and taken to the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tintor repeats that he attended the search and that no object that would be the subject of the commission of a criminal offense was found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Given the detail, thoroughness, number of people, and the time the search lasted, including the opening of even manholes, he does not expect a repetition of similar actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tintor also said that the items the police took away have nothing to do with paperwork, given that everything requested from the documentation was handed over within 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“That was all copied and handed over as the law requires, but this other part took a long time and required everything in existence related to the student protest to be taken and carried away. I do not expect a continuation of the search, but I cannot guess what the further steps of the prosecution and police will be,” he presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tintor emphasizes that he does not see any basis for initiating any criminal proceedings in relation to Rector Vladan \u0110oki\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In those premises, no items were found whose possession is prohibited or whose possession in itself represents a criminal offense. What the eventual further steps will be was not even hinted at by the prosecutor on the spot,” the lawyer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tintor repeats that the University and the rector expressed readiness for cooperation, and that his personal impression is that the entire action on Tuesday was “over-dimensioned” with 30 police officers at the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VJT: Items were found in the Rectorate building that have no place in an academic space<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Public Prosecutor of the Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office (VJT) in Belgrade, Zorica \u0160\u0107eki\u0107, stated that within the framework of undertaking pre-investigation actions aimed at determining failures regarding the safety of students and employees at the Faculty of Philosophy, and regarding the death of a 25-year-old girl at that faculty, pyrotechnics were found in the Rectorate building, but also sprays, syringes, needles, cannulas, infusions, megaphones, radio stations, walkie-talkies, military gas masks, and numerous items that have no place in an academic space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Special Department for the Suppression of Corruption of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade is otherwise undertaking pre-investigation actions in cooperation with members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia aimed at determining failures regarding the safety of students and employees at the faculty, the bringing in and ignition of pyrotechnic devices in the building of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and the death of a 25-year-old girl on March 26 at around 10:40 p.m., and eventually determining other irregularities related to the mentioned events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So far, as \u0160\u0107eki\u0107 told Tanjug, numerous investigative actions have been undertaken aimed at obtaining data, notifications, and evidence, and one of them is the search that was performed yesterday, by order of the Higher Court in Belgrade, in the Rectorate building by members of the UKP MUP of Serbia, in the presence of two public prosecutors of the VJT in Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to seizing the server with video recordings from the Rectorate for the needs of the proceedings, items were also seized that have no place in an academic space, she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This involves pyrotechnics, specifically flash-bangs and firecrackers, sprays, syringes, needles, cannulas, infusions, megaphones, radio stations, walkie-talkies, military gas masks, paints, bandages, several banners with political content, and paper plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, a laptop was found in the basement of the Rectorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The firecrackers and sprays found in the Rectorate will be compared\u2014through expert matching\u2014with the ignited firecrackers and sprays that were found during the investigation of the death of the 25-year-old female.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the site of the tragic event during the investigation on the 5th floor of the Faculty of Philosophy, five parts of green firecrackers were found and seized, along with several firecrackers tied with a rubber band, a pack of cardboard plates, two sprays, one charred spray, one plastic bottle, while several parts of firecrackers, several charred sprays and matches, as well as one hammer, were found in a cardboard bag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, sleeping mattresses, megaphones, walkie-talkies, and sprays were found in the offices used by students at the Faculty of Philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two DVR receivers (servers) were seized, one from the Faculty of Philosophy and one from a nearby catering facility, on which video recordings from and in front of the faculty are stored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In office 512 on the 5th floor, which is called the “archive,” 26 binders were seized containing so-called plenum minutes, decisions of the so-called plenum, plans for public actions, data on donations and spending, and similar written data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, across from the door of office 512, two parts of a firecracker and one mobile phone were found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incident logs of security workers were also seized, in which extraordinary events are recorded and records are kept of persons who are found in the faculty building after 10 p.m. or are sleeping in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the results of the autopsy with toxicological findings of the deceased female are awaited, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade will, as announced by \u0160\u0107eki\u0107, continue to undertake all necessary actions in cooperation with members of the MUP RS aimed at shedding light on the initial events at the Faculty of Philosophy, but also determining all other irregularities brought into connection with the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prosecutor’s Office will continue to inform the public about the actions taken in the proceedings, and upon the conclusion of the same, will announce the established facts based on the collected evidence, as well as the public prosecution decision that will be made in accordance with the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The VJT in Belgrade appeals that the competent state authorities not be obstructed in the exercise of their legal powers regarding this criminal law event, that the pre-investigation proceedings not be politicized, and that the media report professionally and responsibly, \u0160\u0107eki\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
