The police reasonably suspect that the death at the Faculty of Philosophy occurred as a result of a fall from a height because above, on the faculty building, there was an open window on the fifth floor, said police director Dragan Vasiljevi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHaving in mind the unfortunate event in front of the Faculty of Philosophy, we scheduled a conference to announce what has been established,\u201d said Vasiljevi\u0107 and expressed his deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last night at around 10:40 p.m., he added, the police were called by a person who said they had found a person lying motionless on the plateau in front of the faculty. Police quickly arrived at the scene and found a young female person lying motionless. Other competent services were also notified, and the emergency medical service pronounced death at the scene, said the police director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe prosecutor\u2019s office was informed, and the prosecutor ordered the securing of the scene and other measures and actions were initiated,\u201d said Vasiljevi\u0107. \u201cOn the fifth floor of the faculty we found an open window and under the window a box containing a certain amount of pyrotechnics and sprays. On the mentioned items there is also powder, from which we clearly saw that a fire extinguisher had been used to extinguish some fire on that box in which the materials were located. By order of the prosecutor\u2019s office, the body was taken for autopsy, and the police undertook other measures and actions in conducting the on-site investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police director also said that the Department for Combating Corruption of the Criminal Police Directorate received an order from the Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Belgrade, Special Department for Combating Corruption, to collect information about the unfortunate event. The prosecutor\u2019s office ordered the collection of documentation related to the safety of the faculty, procedures for entering the faculty building, working hours of the faculty, and other circumstances important to the case in order to determine whether safety was in accordance with regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur criminal inspectors are conducting interviews with responsible persons at the faculty. This unfortunate event shows that the measures and actions prescribed by Serbia and recommended by the Ministry of Interior were not respected, that the faculty should be a place where young people should study and prepare for the future. On several occasions last year we came to the faculty upon calls and found pyrotechnics, sticks, batons, alcohol, food. We turned higher education institutions into something that cannot be described as appropriate. This event has shown that the faculty should be a place in accordance with regulations,\u201d said Vasiljevi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that what has been lost cannot be returned, but also appealed to other higher education institutions to respect the laws and regulations that are insisted upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will see whether the faculty respected the rules they themselves adopted, whether they respected the time of entering and leaving the faculty, and what is allowed to be kept at the faculty. The Ministry of Interior will continue measures within its jurisdiction on all issues. I ask everyone to take measures and actions within their jurisdiction. This must not happen again, we must not lose young people because we did not do something we had to do. We will do our job, the state of Serbia will do its job, but those responsible for higher education institutions must also do their job,\u201d Vasiljevi\u0107 concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
