Milomir Joksimovi\u0107, better known as Mi\u0161a Omega, was found dead yesterday in an apartment in Palilula, and police are investigating the circumstances of his death. Joksimovi\u0107, it should be recalled, owned numerous companies and was once dubbed the \u201cgravel king,\u201d with estimates suggesting he held ownership stakes in more than 100 businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The circumstances under which Joksimovi\u0107 was found have not yet been officially disclosed, but some reports indicate he was discovered with a gunshot wound, raising suspicions of suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His biography was once covered by Politika, which stated that his wealth in 2009 was measured in tens (possibly hundreds) of millions of euros. The article was prompted by an incident in which workers of the company \u201c1. maj\u201d from Lapovo\u2014owned by Joksimovi\u0107\u2014slept on railway tracks for two weeks in subzero temperatures due to unpaid wages. It was also noted that, until then, the public did not even know what Joksimovi\u0107 looked like, and even nearly two decades later, there are almost no photos of him online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Who was Mi\u0161a Omega?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Milomir Joksimovi\u0107, who held a master\u2019s degree in economics, was born in Belgrade in 1961. With his wife Zorana, he had two sons, Milan (23) and Jovan (22), both involved in the family business as company owners or board members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to his flagship company \u201cOmega Komerc,\u201d from which he got his nickname, Joksimovi\u0107 himself admitted that he directly or indirectly held ownership stakes in as many as 100 companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He was known as the \u201cSerbian gravel king,\u201d and although he was not the official owner of the \u201cDunav Group,\u201d he privatized several companies that operated within that holding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The group included firms such as \u201cHeroj Pinki\u201d from Novi Sad, the Belgrade-based \u201cBagersko-brodarsko preduze\u0107e,\u201d \u201cNapredak\u201d from Apatin, \u201cBrodarstvo\u201d and \u201cVojvodinaput\u201d from Zrenjanin, and \u201cHidrogra\u0111evinar\u201d from Sremska Mitrovica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Owner of hotels, restaurants, and a travel agency<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Aside from gravel, as Politika reported, the Joksimovi\u0107 family also had a major interest in hospitality. They allegedly owned hotels \u201cCentral\u201d in Zemun and \u201cPalas\u201d in Jagodina, \u201cSrebrnac\u201d on Kopaonik, \u201cZelenkada\u201d on Zlatibor, restaurants \u201cRujno\u201d and \u201cSerdarev konak\u201d on Zlatibor, and the villa \u201cPo\u0161tanski dom\u201d in Vrnja\u010dka Banja. They also held a stake in the company \u201cTri grozda,\u201d which operates a dozen of the most famous and oldest traditional restaurants in central Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The family also owned part of \u201cZlatibor turist,\u201d which includes the luxury apartment complex \u201cKraljevi konaci,\u201d the \u201cJezero\u201d restaurant, and usage rights to 13.5 hectares of \u201csocially owned construction land,\u201d including the lake in the center of Zlatibor. Media also reported that the Joksimovi\u0107 family owned half of the well-known travel agency \u201cKon Tiki Travel,\u201d and were unofficially linked to companies such as \u201cPoliester\u201d from Priboj, \u201cRadan\u201d from Pe\u010denjevac, and the orthopedic equipment manufacturer \u201cRudo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Success in business, it was often said, requires strong connections\u2014and Joksimovi\u0107 reportedly had them on both sides of the law.
