Sanja Markovi\u0107, mother of four-year-old Ema who passed away in February following a third tonsil surgery at the General Hospital in \u010ca\u010dak, has expressed disbelief in the results of the Health Ministry\u2019s inspection report released yesterday, reports Nova.rs. She learned the details of the report through media outlets, as no officials have contacted her since the death of her daughter. According to the Ministry\u2019s report, there were no errors in the treatment of the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following Ema\u2019s death, another patient, this time an adult, also passed away after the same type of surgery at the hospital. Both cases have been under review by the Health Ministry inspection for nearly six weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inspection appears to have concluded yesterday. Dragoljub Paunovi\u0107, advisor to the Health Minister for inspection affairs, stated that the review found no procedural or professional errors in Ema\u2019s treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ema\u2019s mother, however, learned the results exclusively from the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo one from the Ministry or any responsible institution has called me since Ema passed away. I learned everything from the news, and I don\u2019t trust them at all. It\u2019s impossible that no mistakes were found because the child was healthy, and they sent her from \u010ca\u010dak to Belgrade without any documentation. I don\u2019t believe the report is accurate. I think another inspection should be conducted because there are surely many errors. Maybe the paperwork looks fine, but the procedure itself was chaotic. During the surgery, they were searching for a respirator and a catheter while I was there waiting. Everything was in complete chaos,\u201d Sanja said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Transport Delayed for Three Hours<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIf everything was ready, why did they wait three hours to transport her to Belgrade? When she arrived, she wasn\u2019t awake, at least not when I saw her. They told me she was sedated\u2014she arrived there practically dead. They transported her to Belgrade just so it wouldn\u2019t be recorded that she died in \u010ca\u010dak. I believe the doctors at the Institute did everything they could.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n No one has yet commented on the key autopsy report, which Ema\u2019s mother expects to receive first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe prosecutor says he hasn\u2019t been notified yet, and I expect to receive the report first rather than reading about it in the media! First, they told us to wait four weeks, then extended it to eight. Surely Ema should be a priority because a healthy child died. We\u2019re waiting for the report to decide whether to file a private lawsuit, while the prosecutor has already opened an official investigation,\u201d said Sanja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n No Statements from \u010ca\u010dak Hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey gave me the discharge papers only on February 10, six days after the surgery. Even that document wasn\u2019t handed to me by the doctor who performed the surgery but by the head of the department,\u201d Ema\u2019s mother said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the day she went to the hospital to collect her deceased daughter\u2019s documents, she received no additional information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFirst, they left me waiting in the hallway behind closed doors, then the head of the department came with the chief nurse and handed me the discharge papers. She only said that Ema\u2019s death was not their fault, that they didn\u2019t know what happened, but that the inspection was coming. While we spoke, the phones were on the table, and she told me not to record the conversation, which surprised me since I had no intention of doing so.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Since then, no one from \u010ca\u010dak Hospital has made any statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo one has spoken since the surgery. Only doctors from the Institute have issued statements, and Dabi\u0107 resigned, which means nothing to me!\u201d Sanja emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Internal and external controls, as well as the Health Ministry inspection at \u010ca\u010dak General Hospital, concluded that no procedural or professional errors were found in the treatment of Ema M.
