The Supreme Secretary of Iran\u2019s National Security Council, Ali Larijani, has been killed, Iranian media confirmed, citing a statement from his office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council stated that Larijani was killed together with his son, Morteza Larijani, reports BBC Persian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier today, the Israeli military announced that Larijani and the commander of the Basij volunteer paramilitary forces, Gholamreza Soleimani, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Iran overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed Soleimani\u2019s death during the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is believed that after the killing of then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Larijani had effectively been the true leader of the Iranian regime since February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For years, he was considered one of the most senior and experienced figures in the leadership of the Iranian regime and was a trusted associate of Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
