The Ministry of Sport has made a decision on amendments and additions to the Decision on the amount of approved funds for regular annual programs of national sports associations financed from the budget of the Republic of Serbia for 2026.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the decision made on February 24, there has been a change in the amount that the Tennis Federation of Serbia will receive from the state, and that figure now stands at 90 million dinars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is known that the initial figure for the current year was 30 million dinars, and the world\u2019s best tennis player of all time, Novak Djokovic, spoke about this with disappointment at the Australian Open, since the TFS received 80 million dinars from the state budget last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Yes, two and a half times less compared to last year\u2026 We are all looking for an answer, I don’t think I am the address to which the question should be sent, but the Ministry of Sport and the Minister. One should ask why it is like that for a sport that has been one of the most successful sports and brands in the last twenty-odd years, a sport that has produced some of the best ambassadors for Serbia in the world\u2026 Why it is like that, I don’t know \u2013 Djokovic began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A concerned statement followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Only tennis from that so-called ‘category one’, since tennis is in that category, received a two and a half times smaller budget. This puts the Tennis Federation of Serbia in a checkmate position. I am not in the Federation, but my uncle is the president and he conveyed to me that this is now the question. A few months until bankruptcy \u2013 Djokovic warned in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To everyone who follows sports, it was clear that the TFS, led by Goran Djokovic, was “punished” because of Novak’s support for the student and civic protests after the tragedy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was no official explanation for the reduction of aid to the “white sport,” just as there is now no explanation as to why the TFS suddenly received 10 million more than in 2025, except for the note that the Commission for the evaluation of proposals and annual programs, at a session held on February 24, considered the requests submitted by several associations, among which was the TFS, and made a proposal on the amount of funds for 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We can only assume who had a hand in the redistribution of funds and the return of money to one of the most successful sports in Serbia in the past two decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
