Citizens of Sarajevo are taking part today in a new, seventh protest regarding the tram accident in which a young man was killed on February 12, and four people were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several hundred citizens gathered in front of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from where the protest march began toward the city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main traffic artery has been blocked, while citizens chant \u201cJustice,\u201d carrying banners reading \u201cYouth killed by the system,\u201d \u201cYour silence is the clearest resignation to us,\u201d \u201cEnough negligence, life is not worth money,\u201d reports Klix.ba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Citizens are demanding urgent remediation of safety risks, the appointment of professional managers to all vacant positions in the relevant institutions, the introduction of clear criteria for granting social assistance to those in need, a budget revision according to priorities in order to secure part of the funds for the vehicle fleet and maintenance, as well as the publication of a plan with the names of all those responsible and concrete measures with defined deadlines for solving the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those who responded to the protests were the Union of the University of Sarajevo, as well as the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo and the Union of Primary and Secondary Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A day earlier, the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor\u2019s Office confirmed to Radio Free Europe that there is no recording from the tram that derailed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThrough forensic examination of the hard drive taken from the driver\u2019s cabin, it was determined that there had been no recorded material since November 29, 2025. The Prosecutor\u2019s Office is, among other things, determining why the video surveillance system was not functioning,\u201d the Cantonal Prosecutor\u2019s Office stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cantonal Prosecutor\u2019s Office had earlier announced that investigators from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Sarajevo Canton were seizing documentation from the Public Transport Company (GRAS) relating to the use of tram number 516 that was involved in the accident, technical documentation of all Czech trams, and certain personnel files of employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Prosecutor\u2019s Office, 30 witnesses have been questioned so far, and ten video surveillance recordings from nearby buildings have been seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prosecutor\u2019s Office previously stated that it had determined that \u201cthere is reasonable suspicion that the driver committed the criminal offense of endangering public traffic through negligence resulting in death,\u201d but that it respects the Court\u2019s decision which rejected the proposal to order detention for the tram driver and released him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver pleaded not guilty, claiming that the accident occurred due to a technical malfunction of the tram, a claim also made by the GRAS Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the days following the accident, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, as well as GRAS director Senad Mujaki\u0107, submitted their resignations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
