The Serbian national water polo team became European champions for the sixth time since independence. Our \u201cDolphins\u201d torpedoed their biggest rival, Hungary, in a spectacular final at the Belgrade \u201cArena,\u201d winning 10:7 (3:2, 2:3, 2:1, 3:1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After eight years, our water polo team are European champions once again. Previously, we won gold in 2006, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the third gold won in Belgrade, after 2006 and 2016, and now in 2026 as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Du\u0161an Mandi\u0107 scored four goals, and not only that\u2014he was also a pillar of the defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nikola Luki\u0107 scored two goals, while \u0110or\u0111e Lazi\u0107, Radomir Dra\u0161ovi\u0107, Nemanja Vico, and Vasilije Martinovi\u0107 each added one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course, young goalkeeper Milan Glu\u0161ac deserves special mention. In his debut at the European Championship, at just 23 years of age, Glu\u0161ac guarded the goal brilliantly throughout the tournament, and recorded 11 saves in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For Hungary, Vendel Vigv\u00e1ri scored three goals, while \u00c1kos Nagy, J\u00e1nos Fekete, Szil\u00e1rd Jansik, and Vince Varga each found the net once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was a tough, true final match between the two most decorated water polo nations in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first half was completely even, with changes in the lead and very few goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the second half, Serbia took a two-goal lead for the first time, but failed to capitalize on chances to pull away and decide the final earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other end, Milan Glu\u0161ac shone in goal, with saves that simply demoralized the Hungarians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the right moment, Du\u0161an Mandi\u0107 caught fire in attack. His spectacular goal between three Hungarian players may well have decided the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the end, our team\u2019s lead grew to 10:6, before the rivals managed to reduce the deficit in the closing moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
