Professor at the Faculty of Law and judge of the Constitutional Court Vladan Petrov has been elected President of the Constitutional Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Constitutional Court has adopted a decision to elect Judge Dr. Vladan Petrov as President for a term of three years. The elected President of the Constitutional Court assumes office on January 22,\u201d the Constitutional Court announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President of the Constitutional Court is elected by the judges of that court by secret ballot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Judge Petrov was nominated for the position of President of the Constitutional Court by ten judges, with the explanation that, among other things, as a judge of the Constitutional Court during the course of his mandate to date, he has demonstrated high professional expertise in drafting decisions in cases for which he was responsible as reporting judge, both in the area of constitutional complaints and in the area of normative control, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn addition, through his constructive proposals and suggestions at sessions of the Constitutional Court, the Grand and Small Chambers, he made an important contribution to the adoption of high-quality decisions in cases in which he was not the reporting judge,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He publicly supports Vu\u010di\u0107<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In March 2017, he signed the \u201cProclamation for a Better Serbia\u201d as a sign of support for presidential candidate Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cVu\u010di\u0107\u2019s political experience, his knowledge of the mechanisms of power, personal characteristics and undeniable charisma, perseverance, work\u2026 provide a guarantee that we will get, if the people elect him, a president in accordance with the Constitution. It seems to me that we have not had one so far,\u201d Petrov said at the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A year later, he supported Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107\u2019s list for Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In January 2025, after a gathering was held in Jagodina on the occasion of the founding of the Movement for the People and the State, Petrov assessed that the Movement would \u201calready in the coming months begin to fulfill its original purpose, especially if in the coming weeks there is greater readiness for proactive action and dialogue,\u201d reports Istinomer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Vladan Petrov was born on July 4, 1975, in Smederevo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was elected full professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade in 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has been a member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is the editor of the journal \u201cArchive for Legal and Social Sciences\u201d and a member of the Scientific Society of Serbia. He is the author of three constitutional law textbooks, two co-authored and one authored independently, as well as several books in the field of constitutional law. He served as Vice Dean for Teaching at the Faculty of Law in Belgrade for two terms and as Acting Dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was a member of the working group for drafting the Act on Amendments to the Constitution in 2021. He is the recipient of two high state decorations\u2014the Order of the Kara\u0111or\u0111e\u2019s Star, First Class, and the Officer\u2019s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
