There is no police presence inside the Faculty of Philosophy building in Novi Sad this morning. Police are present in the university campus, with two police vans parked in the lot across from the Faculty of Philosophy, and two more near the Rectorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a reminder, police arrived yesterday at the request of Dean Milivoje Alanovi\u0107, who said that the blockade of the faculty could not continue and that classes must take place. The blockade began following news that Professor Jelena Kleut had been served with a notice of dismissal, N1 reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday around 4 PM, police entered the faculty building and forcibly removed students and professors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Faculty of Philosophy student Na\u0111a \u0160olaja told N1 that classes are being held in the building, while some professors have canceled lectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe blocked the faculty not only because Kleut was dismissed, but also because the dean said he would file an appeal against the Senate\u2019s decision on the dismissal, which did not happen, even though he spoke with students. It is unacceptable for experts to be dismissed because they are not politically suitable,\u201d \u0160olaja said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking about yesterday\u2019s events at the faculty, \u0160olaja said that the dean\u2019s communication was not in line with his position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEven to call the police, to experience being violently removed by the police, to be cursed at by a police officer, to watch them beat my professor and colleagues. We are no longer safe at the faculty; every time we enter the building we have to think about whether we will be thrown out,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 11 AM, students will hold a plenary session, to which they have invited all colleagues from the University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe only item on the agenda is what happened yesterday and what we are going to do,\u201d said Faculty of Philosophy student Na\u0111a \u0160olaja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
