Stefan Glu\u0161ac from Kraljevo, who was beaten by police at demonstrations in that city, is still recovering even after five months. And the question is how much longer it will take. A hairdresser by profession and the father of two girls, he still cannot move without crutches. And not only is he not working, but for months he has been going from one doctor to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stefan, like many residents of Kraljevo, decided to take to the streets to express dissatisfaction after private security from this city entered the building of the State University in Novi Pazar. They remained for hours next to police cordons guarding the ruling party premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then, deep into the night, when most people had dispersed, the police showed brutality. Stefan Glu\u0161ac found himself in their path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe started to disperse toward the city center. And to go home. There were only about ten of us left. The police charged from the cordon. They grabbed me and beat me in the street. About ten of them. They arrested me. They accused me of attacking an official. Although that is not true,\u201d Stefan told N1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This resident of Kraljevo was taken to police custody that same evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m missing some images. They later told me what happened. They beat me while I was tied up as they were taking me to the police car. At the police station everything was fine afterward. When they took off their masks,\u201d Glu\u0161ac says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five months after the beating, Stefan is still recovering. He cannot go anywhere without a crutch. He has not entered his hair salon for months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m actually better now. I go with just one crutch. They advise me to move as much as possible so that I can recover. Until recently I was walking with both crutches. It was very painful. Now the situation is a bit better,\u201d said the resident of Kraljevo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawyer Vladimir Beo\u010danin says that Glu\u0161ac has been charged with attacking police officers. But, as he explains to N1, in those days none of the police officers sought medical help after clashes with demonstrators. Instead, he says, it came retroactively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter three months we are faced with an order to conduct an investigation that contains allegations that he injured a police officer we are hearing about for the first time then. The injuries are of a minor bodily nature. Maybe they aren\u2019t minor. But the legal qualification of the act is such that he is charged with attacking an official,\u201d Beo\u010danin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to his lawyer, there are no recordings showing that Glu\u0161ac attacked police officers. He says that in the order to conduct the investigation, apart from the names of the police officers who were allegedly injured, there is no other evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
