{"id":196674,"date":"2025-12-29T17:59:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-29T15:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/?p=196674"},"modified":"2025-12-29T17:59:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-29T15:59:12","slug":"they-called-him-the-father-of-the-serbian-nation-he-believed-that-serbs-were-endangered-in-yugoslavia-and-he-is-remembered-as-one-of-the-greatest-writers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/they-called-him-the-father-of-the-serbian-nation-he-believed-that-serbs-were-endangered-in-yugoslavia-and-he-is-remembered-as-one-of-the-greatest-writers\/","title":{"rendered":"THEY CALLED HIM THE \u201cFATHER OF THE SERBIAN NATION\u201d: He believed that Serbs were endangered in Yugoslavia, and he is remembered as one of the greatest writers!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On this day, December 29, 1921, Dobrica \u0106osi\u0107 was born in Velika Drenova, a Serbian writer and essayist and the first president of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u0106osi\u0107\u2019s youth was marked by World War II, in which he fought on the side of the Partisans, which later served as inspiration for his literary work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His works became cult classics in Serbian literature, among them \u201cRoots,\u201d \u201cDivisions,\u201d \u201cA Time of Death,\u201d \u201cA Time of Evil,\u201d \u201cA Time of Power,\u201d and others. \u0106osi\u0107 will be remembered as the first recipient of the NIN Award (in 1954, for the novel \u201cRoots\u201d), and he was a laureate of the same award again in 1961. Among the many other awards for literary creativity that he received, the Vuk Award, the Njego\u0161 Award, the \u201cGolden Cross of Prince Lazar,\u201d the \u201cPetar Ko\u010di\u0107\u201d Award, and the \u201cMe\u0161a Selimovi\u0107\u201d Award stand out, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the late 1960s, he began to oppose the policies of the time, primarily dissatisfied with the constitutional restructuring of the SFRY, which led to his distancing himself from Tito.
