Sla\u0111an Trajkovi\u0107 has been sentenced in the first instance to 10 years in prison for allegedly committing war crimes in the municipality of Vu\u010ditrn during the 1999 conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court in Pri\u0161tina delivered the first-instance verdict against Trajkovi\u0107 today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before the sentencing, the judicial panel heard the closing statements from both the defense and the accused, Sla\u0111an Trajkovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his statement, Trajkovi\u0107 addressed all points of the indictment. At the beginning, he expressed remorse for the victims but insisted that he did not commit the alleged acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, prosecutor Fljorije \u0160amoli presented her closing arguments, claiming, among other things, that Trajkovi\u0107, along with several other uniformed individuals, allegedly “participated in the killing of Albanian civilians, with nine of them being burned alive.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sla\u0111an Trajkovi\u0107 was arrested on December 15, 2022, in Kosovska Mitrovica and has been in detention since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was a member of the Kosovo Police and left service on November 5, 2022, when all Serbs from northern Kosovo withdrew from institutions under the authority of the Pri\u0161tina government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to joining the police, Trajkovi\u0107 underwent all security checks by both Pri\u0161tina and international institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Special Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Pri\u0161tina filed an indictment against Trajkovi\u0107 in July 2023 for an alleged war crime against the civilian population in the municipality of Vu\u010ditrn during the period of 1998\u20131999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
