The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday released a large batch of documents from investigations into the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein (Epstein files), following months of Congressional pressure and the passage of a law requiring the administration to publish them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decision comes amid political conflicts within the Republican Party and dissatisfaction among some of President Donald Trump\u2019s most loyal supporters, who accused his administration of deliberately delaying the release of materials linked to Epstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alongside the documents, the Department of Justice issued a warning that \u201call reasonable efforts\u201d had been made to protect the identities of victims, while acknowledging that some personal information might be inadvertently disclosed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that hundreds of thousands of documents were released in this wave, but the archive is not yet complete. He announced that additional hundreds of thousands of pages will be published in the coming weeks, after further privacy checks to protect victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump had previously attempted to persuade Republicans in Congress to oppose the law, warning that releasing sensitive investigative materials could set a dangerous precedent. However, the law passed with a large majority, and Trump eventually signed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
