The Russian mission to the UN requested that the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals reconsider the decision regarding the Serbian General Ratko Mladi\u0107 and either hand him over to Serbia for further serving his sentence or prematurely release him on humanitarian grounds so that he may spend the rest of his life receiving adequate care.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Maria Zobolotska, at the Security Council session where the Mechanism’s report was considered, stressed that any other approach would be inhumane and that full responsibility for any negative development of events concerning Mladi\u0107 would fall directly on the Mechanism and personally on its president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zabolotska pointed out at the UN Security Council briefing on the institution’s work that Ratko Mladi\u0107’s severe condition has worsened, that he suffers from sudden changes in blood pressure, constantly high blood sugar levels, atrophied muscle tissue in his lower limbs, and impaired motor function in his hands and fingers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Mr. Mladi\u0107 is barely holding his head upright. He has bedsores on both legs. He has osteomyelitis on his left ankle. Due to his low body weight and mandatory bed rest, the patient’s kidneys are overloaded with medications. His cognitive functions are deteriorating. As a result, Ratko Mladi\u0107 is not always able to recognize the presence and specifics of his health problems and seek medical assistance in a timely manner,” she said, as Kosovo online reports the writing of Sputnik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dementia is progressing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

She added that his dementia is progressing, and that the prison hospital administration has not given consent for an MRI scan, even though the last scan performed back in 2022 already showed degeneration of nerve tissue and a worsening of the condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zabolotska asked at the briefing whether this list of illnesses is truly insufficient to grant the request for premature release or for transfer to Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
