Students from Serbia and Hungary<\/strong> have built the HUNITY satellite<\/strong>, which is entirely, as they say, \u201cMade in Serbia.\u201d<\/strong> According to the Committee for the Development of the Space Program<\/strong>, this is the first time that something \u201centirely designed and built in Serbia\u201d<\/strong> will be sent into space. The satellite is dedicated to the victims of a recent canopy collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The primary purpose of the HUNITY satellite is to test new space technologies<\/strong>, including foldable solar panels, sensors, and a mini instrument for scientific measurements<\/strong>, according to N1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project involved students from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME)<\/strong> as well as students from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Faculty of Science, and the Higher Technical School of Professional Studies in Novi Sad<\/strong>, all members of the Committee for the Development of the Space Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is the first time that something being sent into space has been created entirely in Serbia, using our knowledge, skills, and technology,\u201d the Committee stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor the first time, our experts designed and built the complete electronics, including a temperature sensor, entirely within domestic capacities, following all standards and procedures for space applications,\u201d the Committee added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Andr\u00e1s Gschwindt<\/strong>, noted as the initiator and leader of the program and the \u201cfather\u201d of the Hungarian satellite program, developed the entire concept seven years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The satellite was launched on November 28<\/strong> via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket (Transporter 15)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Methodologically, the same principles were applied as in the UNITY 1, UNITY 2, and UNITY 3 satellites<\/strong>, launched in 2021 from India as part of the INDO-SERBIA Space Initiative<\/strong>, led by Prof. Kanapati Gopalakrishnan<\/strong>. This explains why India is participating<\/strong> alongside Serbia in the HUNITY program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delegations from Hungary and India<\/strong> visited Novi Sad from October 25 to November 15, 2024<\/strong>, coinciding with the canopy collapse at the train station. It was then proposed\u2014and accepted\u2014that the satellite be dedicated to the victims<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNow we need to be a little more patient, about two weeks, until we capture the first signal and confirm everything is working. Then we will proceed with joint and individual space missions across all three countries,\u201d said Du\u0161an Radosavljevi\u0107 (KRSP)<\/strong>, the official responsible for implementing the HUNITY program in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
