The Zagreb City Assembly included on the agenda of its session, under urgent procedure, a proposed conclusion which prohibits the use of symbols, slogans, or messages that glorify, encourage, or approve national, racial, or religious hatred in City premises.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the prohibitions, the Usta\u0161a chant “za dom spremni” will also be included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This conclusion is based on the anti-fascist foundations of the Republic of Croatia written in the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia, as well as on the positions of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia and the European Court of Human Rights, according to which the use of the Usta\u0161a greeting ‘Za dom spremni’ does not enjoy the protection of freedom of expression because it represents content that incites hatred based on national, racial, and religious affiliation,” the proposed decision states, as reported by Hina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Tomislav Toma\u0161evi\u0107 stated that the aim of this is to prevent the chanting of the greeting “za dom spremni” from happening again, as was the case at the concert of Marko Perkovi\u0107 Thompson at the Hippodrome in July this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Given the recent events we are witnessing both in Zagreb and in Croatia, the ‘Mo\u017eemo’ and SDP clubs believe that it is necessary to implement the measures stated in the conclusion without delay,” said ‘Mo\u017eemo’ councilor Iva Iv\u0161i\u0107 in the explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toma\u0161evi\u0107 had already announced this measure after the singer Marko Perkovi\u0107 Thompson requested a second concert at the Zagreb Arena for December 28, while the first will be held on December 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
