A driver plowed into pedestrians and cyclists on Oleron Island in western France, injuring 10 people, some of whom are in serious condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A local man in his mid-thirties deliberately drove into the crowd and was arrested after being incapacitated with a taser, authorities said, according to the BBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man covered a certain distance between two villages on the island, hitting several people, including a young girl, said the local mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He eventually left the vehicle, tried to set it on fire, and then fled, the official added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public prosecutor said the suspect is known to the police and shouted \u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d (God is great) at the time of his arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
French Interior Minister Laurent Nu\u00f1ez said that an investigation into the incident has been opened and that he is on his way to the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local media reported that gas cylinders were found in the suspect\u2019s car trunk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eyewitnesses described seeing a series of incidents in several locations on the island, which ended in front of a bakery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
