The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has sentenced the commander of the 43rd Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ramiz Durakovi\u0107, to three years and six months in prison for a war crime against civilians of Serbian nationality in the \u010cajni\u010de area in 1993.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Durakovi\u0107 was convicted in the first-instance verdict for the murder of Darinka Pijevi\u0107 and for setting fire to the houses of Rajko Pijevi\u0107 and Milo\u0161 Pijevi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Durakovi\u0107, who holds citizenship of both Serbia and Germany, was charged by the Prosecutor\u2019s Office of BiH with having known about the crimes committed as commander of the 43rd Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina but failing to take the necessary and reasonable measures to punish the perpetrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The indictment charged him with the criminal offense of war crime against the civilian population under the Criminal Code of the former SFRY, according to the announcement from the Prosecutor\u2019s Office of BiH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The trial of Durakovi\u0107 began in October 2024, and the verdict is subject to appeal before the Appellate Division of the Court of BiH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
