U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States remains interested in holding a meeting with representatives of the Russian Federation, reports The Economic Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rubio noted that he recently had a \u201cgood\u201d phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, emphasizing that Washington \u201ccontinues to work on that basis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe United States will always be interested in contact if there is a possibility of achieving peace,\u201d added the Secretary of State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rubio\u2019s statements came after U.S. President Donald Trump canceled the planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest on October 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polish journalist and international relations analyst at the University of Wroc\u0142aw, Magdalena Gornicka-Partika, published that Rubio himself was behind the decision to cancel the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CNN, citing American officials, reported that after the conversation between Lavrov and Rubio, it was assessed that \u201cMoscow\u2019s position remains unchanged\u201d and that Russia has not abandoned its \u201cmaximalist demands.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Budapest still expects dialogue<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously expressed hope that the meeting between Putin and Trump would still take place in Budapest, pointing out that such a meeting would have a \u201csignificant contribution to the de-escalation of global tensions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, however, both sides continue diplomatic contacts at the ministerial level, assessing that a direct meeting between the leaders would only be possible if there is concrete convergence of positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
