Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, seriously stirred up spirits in Serbia with a shameful statement about the Kosovo national football team.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his guest appearance on the podcast of the Football Federation of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Infantino spoke about Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For many footballers from Kosovo who were born and raised abroad, there is a large number of influences. As we know, a large number of them, while the Kosovo national team was not internationally recognized, started playing for the Switzerland national team,” Infantino pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then he added a part that we could describe as – shameful, at the very least:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For example, Shaqiri and others. One of the best players who could have played for Kosovo, but Kosovo was not internationally recognized at the time, unfortunately,” said Infantino.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shaqiri and Xhaka tried to change their citizenship and play for this national team, but they were not allowed to because they had played for Switzerland at the European Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
