A stowaway was found dead in the landing gear compartment of an American Airlines plane in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Sunday morning, police said.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plane landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport from Europe, CBS News reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maintenance crews found the body, and responding police officers pronounced the person dead, according to a statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson for American Airlines said the airline is cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is at least the second time this year that stowaways have been found in landing gear bays at US airports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, two dead stowaways were found in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue aircraft at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
