The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107, stated today that the US has postponed sanctions on NIS for only four more days and that they will be introduced starting on October 1st, and he conveyed that the state will do everything it can to protect its citizens.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I can’t call this good news, but it is expected, as I announced it to you yesterday, it seems to me that the Americans have extended the non-imposition of sanctions for only four more days, that is, from September 27th to October 1st, meaning from October 1st we will have sanctions imposed on NIS,” Vu\u010di\u0107 told reporters in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He says that we are collateral damage in the relations between the Americans and the Russians, the West and the Russians, but that we will pay a high price. He reminded that the Russians are the majority owner of NIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So, let’s be absolutely clear and for all our citizens to understand. We have been extremely fair to our Russian partners and our American partners. We will try to remain fair, but people must know that we will pay an extremely high price,” Vu\u010di\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President said that he is convinced the Russians will say they have reserves for a month or two, but that problems will follow because no bank will want to work with NIS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“But since financial transactions are prohibited, because no bank will want to work, then there will be a problem with salary payments and everything else. But let’s see, let’s wait. Maybe some miracle happens by October 1st. Everything I asked for, they wanted to show respect and say – here, we won’t do it immediately, I think four days means that employees’ entitlements could be paid out, so we can see how and what. I don’t know what to tell you, but a difficult time and a hard winter certainly await us,” Vu\u010di\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He conveyed that the state will do everything it can to ensure citizens have a warm winter in their homes, and that they do not have to worry about supplies for their cars, as well as those who drive buses and trucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“And everything else will be much, much harder. And now everything, absolutely everything after this, is further complicated for us and is creating huge political, economic, and every other kind of problem. I have nothing else to tell you, but we will fight, we will talk and look for a way out of a very unpleasant and difficult situation – we neither ate nor smelled the onion, but we will certainly pay the highest price,” Vu\u010di\u0107 stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sanctions on NIS have so far been postponed six times, the last time until September 26th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Serbia is working on finding a solution”<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Serbia is working on finding a solution to the introduction of American sanctions on NIS, but there is very little interest from certain sides in the problems we face, Vu\u010di\u0107 added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vu\u010di\u0107, answering a question about whether there is a plan on how to solve the problem of sanctions against NIS that the US will introduce starting October 1st, said that he hit a wall while looking for a solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are working and examining all possibilities, but when you see that there is little interest from certain sides in the problems that Serbia is facing, what can you do. We are hitting a wall, how can we break through the wall with our head, no matter which side we try from, we will hurt our head. We are trying to find some other way that won’t be a collision with the wall,” Vu\u010di\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As he added, he does not see a solution to this problem at the moment and calls on everyone in Serbia to point it out if they see one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that whatever has been offered, the Russian side does not want to accept, and that whatever has been proposed for postponing the sanctions, the Americans are introducing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What should I do, threaten the Russians, the Americans, we are small, it makes no sense, and I have to secure oil for the people,” Vu\u010di\u0107 stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked what will happen with the American tariffs, Vu\u010di\u0107 said he hopes that issue will be successfully resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a longer process, but I see sun rays at the end of the tunnel. For NIS I entered the tunnel, passed more than half of the tunnel, but I don’t see a glimmer of light, which is why I ask, without any irony, everyone who sees how we could solve this to let us know,” Vu\u010di\u0107 stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He pointed out that Serbia has offered dozens of solutions, but that none was acceptable to any side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
