“The female students of Serbia, in addition to the brutality of the state apparatus and regime mercenaries that their male student colleagues endured, also had to cope with attempts to be humiliated precisely because they are women. They did not hide, and today they are not hiding behind anyone,” the jury statement reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As representatives of the female students of Serbia, the award was presented to Ru\u017eica Ristivojevi\u0107, a student at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award is presented by a jury consisting of previous winners of this award, including police major Katarina Petrovi\u0107, prosecutor Bojana Savovi\u0107, coordinator of the “Women in Black” organization and activist Sta\u0161a Zajovi\u0107, actress Milena Radulovi\u0107, journalist Tamara Skrozza, N1 television journalist and editor Danica Vu\u010deni\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The “Conquest of Freedom” award was established in 2001, in memory of the journalist and activist Maja Mar\u0161i\u0107evi\u0107 Tasi\u0107 (1965-2001), and is presented on the day when the former president Slobodan Milo\u0161evi\u0107 was defeated in the elections. It is received by women for their contribution and work in promoting human rights, the rule of law, democracy, and tolerance in political communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
