Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, it is a great honour for me to address the jubilee session on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations on behalf of the Republic of Serbia, a founding member of the United Nations and a country that respects freedom and is proud of its history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year we are marking eight decades of the existence of the world organization. During this period, the United Nations has been a framework for dialogue, cooperation, and solidarity among nations, without which it would not be possible to respond to the challenges of the present time. Only with a common effort can we create a future that will be dignified and safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With that, ladies and gentlemen, I come to the five basic principles that guide Serbia and its coherent political vision and represent the pillars of its international actions. Number one, the United Nations is not a relic of the past, but a compass for the future. After 80 years, this is a time for both reflection and sincerity. This must not be a scene where giants fight, while small countries are protected from it. This must be a round table, where everyone has a voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Countries like us, from the global south, are often treated as figures on a chessboard, and it’s time to show that we can be innovators and guarantors of cooperation. We may not have the loudest voice, but we often have the clearest vision because we see both the east and the west at the same time. Our engagement with all partners does not mean blind consent; it means respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the belief that dialogue is stronger than division. Serbia is a reliable and predictable partner, but reciprocity is important. We will defend our autonomy, just as we defend cooperation. The Charter of the United Nations was not written to serve one moment in history, but to withstand the test of time.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The world is facing great geopolitical divisions, and the Charter of Nations is the only framework that can hold us together. Serbia is not a buffer zone, but a bridge, and bridges do not divide, but connect. As president of Serbia, for the first time, I would like to offer Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, as a place for dialogue for all conflicts around the world. I believe we will offer the best possible hospitality and absolute security for the participants.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
