General Ratko Mladi\u0107, who is serving a prison sentence in The Hague and whose health condition is still poor, will be examined by a neuropsychiatrist and a cardiologist from Serbia at the beginning of October, said the general’s son Darko Mladi\u0107.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“His condition is unchanged – there are no changes for the better or for the worse. He had a minor surgical intervention last week, but essentially there is nothing new,” Darko Mladi\u0107 stated for Srna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that General Mladi\u0107 still gets tired quickly and often cannot endure longer communication with his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“My mother recently visited. One day he couldn’t even communicate with her for an hour, and the next day he could for four hours. It’s all on the edge,” said Darko Mladi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He points out that the family and lawyers continue the fight to allow the general to be treated in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have been doing everything we can all these years. I hope that is partly the reason why he is still alive. If we hadn’t fought, I don’t think he would be with us today. There is always hope, and we have the will to continue,” said Darko Mladi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Mladi\u0107 has survived several strokes, has neurological, cardiovascular, and urological problems that are progressively worsening and becoming more complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, a pacemaker was implanted in a Dutch hospital, but his health condition is still deteriorating and his kidneys have failed since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals rejected the urgent request of General Ratko Mladi\u0107’s defense for temporary or conditional early release due to poor health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its decision, the court acknowledged that General Mladi\u0107’s condition was “terminal” but refused to release him, thus acting contrary to previous practice when, in several cases, terminally ill convicts were released early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
