Yesterday around 5 p.m. in southern Mitrovica<\/strong>, in front of the city’s St<\/strong>. Sava<\/strong> church, an incident occurred when an unknown man stoned a bus with pilgrims from central Serbia<\/strong> and broke a window. This person has since been arrested, but also released, KoSSev<\/strong> learns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of believers, who were returning from visiting monasteries in the south of Kosovo<\/strong>, stopped to visit the St<\/strong>. Sava<\/strong> church as well. As they were getting off the bus, a man threw a stone and broke a window on one of the two buses. The incident occurred in the presence of the police, who are guarding this church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect was immediately arrested, and the police also took statements from eyewitnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, the pilgrims on the spot improvised the repair of the broken window and thus set off back on their way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kosovo<\/strong> Police confirmed the incident. Avni Zahiti<\/strong>, in charge of the southern region, stated for KoSSev<\/strong> that the Kosovo<\/strong> Police today around 5 p.m. arrested the suspect who is believed to have thrown a stone at the bus on “Shemsi Ahmeti<\/strong>” street, damaging the glass on the bus door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“After questioning, the suspect was released in a regular procedure, while a procedure for the criminal offense of ‘Damage to property’ has been initiated against him,” Zahiti<\/strong> stated in a short written statement for KoSSev<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The St<\/strong>. Sava<\/strong> church, burned and devastated during the March pogrom in 2004<\/strong>, has been guarded by the Kosovo<\/strong> Police ever since the liturgical life was restored ten years ago. Restoration work on the church began in 2014<\/strong>, and the very next year the first priest Sa\u0161a Mitrovi\u0107<\/strong> moved into the renovated parish home with his family. He was then replaced by Father Nenad Stojanovi\u0107<\/strong>, who lives with his wife and five children in southern Mitrovica<\/strong> today \u2013 as the only Serbian<\/strong> family in this part of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the difficult circumstances, the liturgical life has been renewed, and an increasing number of believers come to the church, especially on Sundays and for major holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
