{"id":187604,"date":"2025-09-16T17:28:01","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T15:28:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/?p=187604"},"modified":"2025-09-16T17:28:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T15:28:03","slug":"after-supplementary-investigation-indictment-raised-against-vesic-and-12-others-over-collapse-of-canopy-in-novi-sad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/serbiantimes.info\/en\/after-supplementary-investigation-indictment-raised-against-vesic-and-12-others-over-collapse-of-canopy-in-novi-sad\/","title":{"rendered":"AFTER SUPPLEMENTARY INVESTIGATION: Indictment Raised Against Vesi\u0107 and 12 Others Over Collapse of Canopy in Novi Sad!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad, after a supplementary investigation, has filed an indictment against 13 people, including former Minister of Transport Goran Vesi\u0107 and former Director of Serbian Railways Infrastructure Jelena Tanaskovi\u0107, over the collapse of the canopy at the entrance to the Novi Sad Railway Station, in which 16 people were killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the tragic event of November 1, 2024, when the collapse of the canopy at the Novi Sad Railway Station claimed the lives of sixteen people and seriously injured one person, the Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad informs the public that on September 16, 2025, in accordance with the law, it filed an indictment against thirteen defendants on reasonable suspicion of committing criminal offenses legally qualified as Serious Crimes Against Public Safety under Article 288, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad, in the supplementary investigative procedure, fully acted upon the Decision of the Panel of the Higher Court in Novi Sad No. KV. 1408\/24, which was delivered to this office on April 11, 2025. The last investigative action was undertaken on September 12, 2025, after which, on September 15, 2025, an Order on the completion of the supplementary investigation was issued, thereby concluding the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the investigation, the Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad acted within its jurisdiction and in the interest of the investigation. For some of the accused, detention was also proposed due to the risk of repeating the criminal offense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to protect the interests of all victims, the indictment proposes that the court grant property claims to authorized persons. It was also proposed that all the accused be imposed with the security measure of Prohibition from Performing Duties, Activities, and Functions, and that they be obliged to fully reimburse the costs of the criminal proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad welcomes the constructive participation of the public in this case. At the same time, it emphasizes that the Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office acts in the public interest, and that arbitrary speculation in the public does not contribute to the conduct of the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The allegations of the indictment are fully supported by the collected evidence confirming the reasonable suspicion that the accused committed the criminal offenses they are charged with. The Higher Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office in Novi Sad expects the indictment to come into legal force against all defendants in the shortest possible time.
