Conservative activist Charlie Kirk<\/strong> was shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University<\/strong> in Orem<\/strong>, in the state of Utah<\/strong>, on Wednesday, university officials announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Associated Press<\/strong>, Kirk is in the hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An emergency alert issued by the university states that the incident involved only one shot. The suspect is in custody, and police said they are investigating the shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We can confirm that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie<\/strong>,” said Obri Lej\u010d<\/strong>, a public relations manager for Turning Point USA<\/strong>, which Kirk<\/strong> founded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

University officials told Scripps News Salt Lake City<\/strong> that the shots were fired from the top of a campus building, approximately 200 meters from where Kirk<\/strong> was speaking under a tent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shooting occurred about 20 minutes after Kirk<\/strong> began his speech, at around 12:10 PM local time. “He was hit and security immediately evacuated him,” the university’s statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Footage of the moment of the shooting in the courtyard of the Sorensen<\/strong> Center on campus has been published on social media. A single shot can be heard, and Kirk<\/strong>, who was sitting under a tent with a microphone in his hand, can be seen reaching for his bloody neck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former congressman from Utah<\/strong>, Jason Chaffetz<\/strong>, told Fox News<\/strong> that the shooting happened while Kirk<\/strong> was answering a question about transgender mass attackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Details about the suspect or their motives are not yet known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State Attorney Pam Bondi<\/strong> stated that the FBI<\/strong> and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms<\/strong> are at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FBI<\/strong> Director Kash Patel<\/strong> said the bureau is closely monitoring the situation: “Agents will be on site quickly,” he wrote on X<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
