The Financial Times<\/strong> announced that the US<\/strong> has informed European countries it is withdrawing from joint activities in the fight against disinformation coming from Russia<\/strong>, China<\/strong>, and Iran<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a text reported by Ukraine’s Pravda<\/strong>, it is stated that European countries received a notification last week from the State Department<\/strong>, which says the US is ending the application of memorandums of understanding signed in 2024 during the time of former US President Joe Biden<\/strong>, who recently had surgery to remove cancerous cells from his skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These agreements were aimed at creating a unified approach to identifying and exposing harmful information coming from Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The memorandums were part of an initiative led by the Global Engagement Center (GEC)<\/strong>, a State Department agency in charge of combating disinformation spread by US adversaries and terrorist organizations abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Rubin<\/strong>, who headed that center until last December, described the move by President Donald Trump’s<\/strong> new administration as a “unilateral act of disarmament” in the information war against Russia and China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Information warfare is the reality of our time, and artificial intelligence will only multiply the risks from it,” Rubin assessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He told the FT<\/strong> that 22 countries in Europe and Africa signed agreements with the US during the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was part of the Biden administration’s program to counter manipulation coming from foreign states, and its goal was to build a common understanding of these threats and cooperate with partner countries on a coordinated response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
