The “Imela” flower shop in Konjarnik, owned by Jovan Nenadi\u0107, a member of the Konjarnik Assembly, was again the target of an attack and arson early on Friday morning. As Nenadi\u0107 told “Nova,” everything indicates that it is an organized pressure due to their support for students and civil protests, especially considering that this is not the first time this has happened to them.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jovan Nenadi\u0107, the owner of the “Imela” flower shop in Konjarnik, which was already attacked about ten days ago when an attempt was also made to set it on fire, told Nova that his shop was once again a target, because of, as he says, his support for students and the protests in Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last night we had another attack on the shop, an attempt to set the premises on fire, but this time it was successful. Everything happened around 3:30 a.m., just like last time. The scenario is absolutely the same, only the people who committed the act are different. A window was broken, some flammable liquid was poured, and a flare was thrown in. Luckily, a neighbor came by, heard the glass break, and called the police. Firefighters came quickly and extinguished the fire, so it did not spread further,” Nenadi\u0107 explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He says that the damage is almost the same as last time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A window was broken, two rows of shelves were burned. Taught by the previous experience, we know that smoke harms plants, so all the flowers also showed signs of suffocation. The leaves started to fall off in the days following the attack. Soot from the smoke fell on the teddy bears and things in the shop. Everything that is alive in the shop is damaged. Some will be able to be saved, but it won’t be for sale, but for me, because I like to grow plants,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nenadi\u0107 reminds us that this is not the only kind of pressure he is suffering, and that from mid-June until today, the shop has had as many as eight inspections!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“One tax inspection came two days after the first fire. Since they didn’t find any irregularities, they were ready to make a list, so I asked them – what’s the point of a list if half the plants are burned and the other half are damaged and not for sale? Yesterday, there was a municipal inspection based on a report, since we had taken the shelves outside because we wanted to renovate the shop and make a damage report. We had properly put tape that the premises were closed and in the process of being renovated. However, the inspector made a report, so now I can expect a misdemeanor charge. That happened yesterday, and tonight the fire was set,” he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, everything indicates that the attacks are not accidental.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In three and a half years, I had three inspections, and in the last three months, almost eight!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s been four years since I’ve been at the shop. In three and a half years, I had three inspections, and then in the last three months, almost eight. After the first fire, we couldn’t say with certainty whether it was all related to the support for the students. Maybe it was some dissatisfied customer. But two identical attacks, from August 19 to August 29, are not accidental. The first attack was at 3:39 a.m., this one today at 3:34 a.m. The camera recorded the attacker, but he is completely masked – a scarf and a balaclava over his face,” Nenadi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite everything, he emphasizes that he is not afraid and that he will not give up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are not afraid, but all of this has affected us. How could it not. But there are also good things. The support of the people left the biggest impression on me; it was so powerful. After that, everything did not seem so terrible. Just like last time, we are getting support now. Someone is constantly stopping by. People have supported us, they are sending messages, they are asking us. We will continue to support the students and citizens in the protests. Just like we had that banner – it is still there. We will not succumb to pressure. We are not afraid, and we will not back down. We will continue,” Jovan Nenadi\u0107 said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a reminder, ten days ago, an almost identical attack happened to the same flower shop in Konjarnik. A masked attacker broke a window and tried to set the shop on fire. This attack caused public alarm and roused the residents of Konjarnik, as well as other parts of Belgrade, who immediately organized and collected aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, the practice of the Serbian Progressive Party regime, if one looks at previous similar cases of destroying premises and shops of owners who support the student and civil struggle, is to try to stifle the rebellion that has spread throughout Serbia with blackmail and attacks. People who have openly supported the students and citizens who have been protesting for nine months have encountered threats, blackmail, and hits from various inspections, and even arson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
