On Wednesday morning, a sociologist A. M. from Kosovska Mitrovica and a Croatian Air Force pilot J. I. from Split were interrogated at the Split County State Attorney’s Office. According to unofficial information from Slobodna Dalmacija, they are currently charged with the criminal offense of espionage, and they were arrested on an island of the Split archipelago a month ago.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were both there on vacation since they have been in a romantic relationship for several years. After the arrest, the Split pilot was released, while she was given a decision to be placed in the Trilj Transit Reception Center for foreigners for a month, after which she was supposed to be expelled from Croatia for 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, allegedly\u2014while she was in Trilj and he was at an unknown location\u2014investigators, based on a court order, checked their mobile devices and communication and, as they claim, found compromising messages that led them to suspect them of international espionage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Criminal Code, the criminal offense of espionage, or for anyone who “unlawfully collects secret data, with the aim of making it available to a foreign state, a foreign organization, a foreign legal entity, or a person working for them,” carries a prison sentence of six months to five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was she giving confidential information to the Serbian List?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

An officially unemployed woman from Kosovska Mitrovica, who works for a German organization, was criminally charged for allegedly collecting data that her romantic partner, the Split pilot, had been giving her for the past three years. He spent some time in Kosovo as a member of the Croatian Contingent (HRVCON) as part of KFOR, an international peacekeeping force in Kosovo led by NATO, whose task is to maintain order, peace, and security in Kosovo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They allegedly exchanged messages via WhatsApp in which he gave her confidential information about the movements and plans of KFOR forces related to the situation in northern Kosovo, and she then passed them on to the leaders of the Serbian List party and a journalist from a well-known international news agency, writes Slobodna Dalmacija.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspect and the pilot are charged with four specific criminal offenses, but given the sensitivity of this whole love-espionage story, the journalists of this media outlet were unable to obtain more specific information. Allegedly, in one case, the Split pilot gave his partner information related to KFOR’s actions in Zubin Potok.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
