Goran Bubi\u0107, the lawyer for the president of the Republic of Srpska (RS) Milorad Dodik, today filed a request with the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for Dodik to pay a fine of 36,500 convertible marks (about 18,700 euros) instead of a one-year prison sentence, the Sarajevo portal Raport announced.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law allows a prison sentence of up to one year to be “bought out” by paying a fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, Dodik avoided the Court of BiH sending a document to his lawyers with the precise date on which he must report to the state prison in Vojkovi\u0107i, in East Sarajevo, to serve his sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Court of BiH will decide on this request, but before making a decision, it must also inform the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH about everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to a one-year prison sentence, Dodik was also legally sentenced to a six-year ban on political activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the final verdict of the Court of BiH, the Central Election Commission of BiH (CEC) today stripped Dodik of his mandate as president of the RS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has the right to appeal that decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
