The Hague Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals has rejected Ratko Mladi\u0107’s request for early or temporary release from prison on humanitarian grounds.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was made by the President of the Mechanism, Judge Graciela Gati Santana, after consultations with the five judges who previously ruled on Mladi\u0107’s appeal against the final judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mladi\u0107’s defense claimed that he suffers from a terminal illness and that his life expectancy is drastically shortened, noting that detention conditions hinder adequate palliative care. However, the court determined that, although his health condition is serious and requires daily care, there is no acute terminal illness that would justify his release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to medical reports, Mladi\u0107 is in a stable condition with occasional improvements, and in the prison hospital in The Hague, he has access to highly specialized care, including a multidisciplinary team and the possibility of regular contact with his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court assessed that his continued detention is neither inhumane nor degrading, but rather meets high standards of humane treatment for convicted persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As stated, the court will continue to monitor his health condition and ensure appropriate care and conditions for maintaining contact with his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
