On Sunday, July 20, at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Pittsburgh, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, Washington, and New York, served the Holy Hierarchical Liturgy and a memorial service for members of the Serbian National Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This prayer service, with the concelebration of clergy and the presence of numerous faithful and diaspora representatives from across America, symbolically concluded the three-day “Serbian Heritage Days” event \u2013 in the spirit of faith, unity, and pride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Today we held a memorial service and commemoration for all the founders and pioneers of the Serbian National Federation, from Mihajlo Pupin, Nikola Tesla<\/strong>, to all known and unknown, and prayed for their souls, which, with our prayers, remembrance, and gratitude, rejoice and give us strength to persevere in today’s temptations. Serbia lives in every generation of our people in the diaspora, in prayer, language, culture, and love for their homeland,” stated Consul General Dr. Vladimir Bo\u017eovi\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the invitation of the oldest Serbian organization in the United States \u2013 the Serbian National Federation, founded back in 1901 in Pittsburgh, whose foundations were laid by the great scientist Mihajlo Pupin and the famous inventor Nikola Tesla, the Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in New York, Dr. Vladimir Bo\u017eovi\u0107, attended the grand opening of the large three-day event, known as SNF Three Days or “Three Days of the Serbian National Federation.” This event is traditionally held every summer in Pittsburgh and is a true celebration of Serbian heritage and identity on American soil, also known as “Serbian Heritage Days.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n This event represents a unique celebration of Serbian heritage, an example and demonstration of unity, and a testament to the century-long perseverance of our people in preserving their roots in America. This year’s edition, with a large presence of Serbian community members from all over the USA, held special significance due to the presence of Dr. Bo\u017eovi\u0107, who, with his arrival, symbolically connected the institutions of the Republic of Serbia with the people who have been creating, working, building, and remaining loyal to their homeland here since 1901.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The grand opening of the event was held in downtown Pittsburgh, featuring a Serbian band from the city that performed traditional Serbian music, conveying the energy and spirit of the people from both sides of the Atlantic, and attracting the attention of people of foreign origin who joined the event and learned about Serbian culture. Afterward, a large number of participants headed to a game of the local baseball team, the “Pirates,” which enjoys significant support from the Serbian community in Pittsburgh. On that occasion, a special greeting was extended to the Serbian community from the stadium’s official announcer, acknowledging its significant contribution to the city’s history and cultural mosaic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With a spectacular fireworks display following the game, the celebration continued at the Serbian Club in Pittsburgh, featuring a rich cultural and artistic program, socializing, and a sense of community that has permeated generations of Serbs in this part of Pennsylvania for over a century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The event continues today with an organized gathering on a special tourist boat that will cruise Pittsburgh’s rivers, offering participants a unique experience of the city and an opportunity to enjoy traditional Serbian food, wines, and musical performances, fostering new friendships and strengthening existing ties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On the final day, Sunday, a solemn Holy Hierarchical Liturgy is planned, to be served by His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America, New York, and Washington, with the clergy of the Diocese, and a large number of faithful and guests are expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Throughout all activities, Consul General Bo\u017eovi\u0107 took the opportunity to present the work and results of the Consulate General in New York, as well as opportunities for cooperation with the diaspora. He particularly invited citizens of Serbian descent to renew or request citizenship of the Republic of Serbia, which generated great interest among those present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In his address, the Consul General emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I am deeply impressed by this magnificent event and the strong patriotic fervor carried by these wonderful people \u2013 descendants of our ancestors who came to Pittsburgh more than a century ago. Some of them belong to the second, third, and even fourth generations of Serbs in America, but they do not forget their roots. Here, on the soil of a once great industrial center, they have preserved their faith, language, spirituality, and culture, in a way that inspires admiration. Serbia lives within them.
