Nikola Jokic<\/strong> has no plans to leave the Denver Nuggets<\/strong> anytime soon, despite not signing a contract extension this summer, according to insider Sam Amick<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although he was eligible to sign a contract extension this summer, the Nuggets superstar decided to wait. However, according to Amick, Denver fans have no reason to panic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There are no signs whatsoever that Jokic wants to leave Denver in the near future,” Amick stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Nuggets have been active this summer, significantly bolstering their roster with the arrival of Cam Johnson<\/strong> in a trade for Michael Porter Jr., and also bringing in Bruce Brown<\/strong>, Jonas Valanciunas<\/strong>, and Tim Hardaway Jr.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though Jokic can become a free agent in 2027, there are no indications that he is considering leaving the franchise that drafted him. The 30-year-old Serbian center is under contract until 2026, with a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2026\/2027 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s also a financial reason why Jokic is currently delaying a new contract. If he waits until next summer, he becomes eligible for a four-year extension worth over $290 million<\/strong>\u2014significantly more than the three-year, $212 million deal he could have signed this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jokic is coming off another historic season, becoming the first center in NBA history to average a triple-double throughout an entire season: 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game<\/strong>. He finished second in the 2025 MVP voting, just behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
