A 21-year-old man died yesterday at the Urgent Center in Belgrade. According to official information, he committed suicide. His colleagues, students from the School of Electrical Engineering (ETF) at the University of Belgrade, announced today that he did not attend the protest on June 28th (Vidovdan)<\/strong> and was hospitalized on June 29th<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the Urgent Center, and the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, on June 29th, he jumped from his fifth-floor apartment in the building where he lived with his mother. He was transported with severe injuries to the Urgent Center in Belgrade, where he later died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ETF Students Address Misinformation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The ETF students in blockade issued a statement aiming to prevent further spread of misinformation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Dear colleagues, journalists, fellow citizens, we know that you have been informed from various sources and in different ways about the unfortunate event that has shaken all of us. The death of our colleague has deeply affected us, and we are unable to respond to further inquiries. In this difficult moment, our thoughts and hearts are with the family and friends of our deceased colleague, and that is the only thing that matters now. We express our sincerest condolences and sympathy to them.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students called on the media to report with empathy and respect for the family and loved ones. “We condemn all individuals and institutions who do not respect their privacy and, ignoring the shared pain, irresponsibly inform the public,” the ETF students in blockade stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The students emphasized that the memory of their colleague will remain in their hearts forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Official Reports on the Death<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to the MUP report from the Vo\u017edovac Police Station, provided to NIN upon request, on June 29th, the police received a call from emergency services that a young man had jumped from the fifth floor. The MUP states that it was a suicide, and no farewell letter or anything suspicious was found in the apartment. According to the police report, the mother told the police that the young man had come home half an hour before jumping from the window and that, as stated in the MUP report, he “was in a normal mood.” At the Urgent Center, the police spoke with the young man’s father, who said that he had been with them during the day and then returned to Belgrade. The police report states that the young man died on July 2nd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urgent Center’s Statement<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Urgent Center in Belgrade also issued a statement regarding this event. Their statement is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On Sunday, June 29th, at approximately 6 PM, patient F.P., 21 years old, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit ‘B’ of UC UKCS for the treatment of injuries sustained from jumping from a height (fifth floor). Upon admission, he was examined by an anesthesiologist, urologist, orthopedist, surgeon, neurosurgeon, and thoracic surgeon, and was thoroughly clinically, laboratorily, and radiologically evaluated. All surgical measures were immediately undertaken, which included multiple complex interventions. Despite all measures taken, on Wednesday, July 2nd, in the afternoon hours, a fatal outcome was confirmed for the aforementioned patient. Therefore, the patient received medical care at UC UKCS on Sunday, June 29th, and not Saturday, June 28th, based on injuries sustained after a fall from a great height, and not after intervention by police forces. We once again emphasize that spreading panic and causing disorder by disseminating inaccurate information is subject to criminal liability under the laws of the Republic of Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
