The celebrated Hollywood actor, director, and producer Mel Gibson stayed in the holy Serbian monastery of Hilandar, located on Mount Athos in Greece, in the past few days, from June 27 to June 29.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his visit, he attended the celebration of Hilandar’s ktitor’s feast day, the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Prince Lazar \u2013 Vidovdan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-He came to Hilandar for deeply spiritual reasons. Truly dedicated to the foundations of the Christian faith, through his life and rich film work, he visited the holy family of Hilandar for prayerful peace and an encounter with the Orthodox tradition, which has been continuously inherited there for more than eight centuries, states the Hilandar website, adding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-He participated in services, was at monastic meals, and conversed with the monks. Abbot Metodije introduced him to the holy relics, the history of Hilandar, and monastic life in the monastery. He particularly familiarized him with the meaning of Vidovdan, the Kosovo Covenant, and the sacrifice that the Serbian people, in the struggle for freedom and defense of Christianity, offered for the sake of the Heavenly Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mel Gibson’s stay on Mount Athos and in Hilandar was also a search for spiritual inspiration before the filming of “Resurrection,” which will begin in September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His famous film “The Passion of the Christ,” which depicted events from the life of Jesus Christ preceding the crucifixion, had a great impact on the entire Christian world and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film “Resurrection” will follow the events that occurred after the Son of God rose from the dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
