Serbian President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 accused students participating in blockades of handing over former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milo\u0161evi\u0107 to The Hague on Vidovdan<\/a> (St. Vitus Day). Students from the Faculty of Medicine, who are part of the blockade, reacted to his accusation by telling him to “wash his face with cold water,” quoting one of his earlier statements.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107’s accusation was directed at “blockaders,” a well-known term the president uses for students, and all would be fine if it weren’t for the fact that the event took place on June 28, 2001, when most of today’s students participating in the blockades weren’t even born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, later in the interview on Prva TV, when the host remarked that he “meant DOS,” Vu\u010di\u0107 continued with the words: “Yes, the blockaders,” thereby equating the “Students in Blockade” group from 2024 with the political coalition from 2000.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We had terrible days, like the deliberate handover of President Milo\u0161evi\u0107 to the Hague Tribunal on Vidovdan. That is one of the greatest disgraces the blockaders committed against the state of Serbia,” said Vu\u010di\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting to this statement, students from the Faculty of Medicine in blockade told the president to “wash his face with cold water.”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Students are accused of extraditing Slobodan Milo\u0161evi\u0107 to the Hague Tribunal. As a man said a few months ago: ‘Are you conscious? Wash your face with cold water,'” they wrote on their official X account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How the Scandalous “Washing” Statement Came About<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In this way, the students reminded of one of the Serbian president’s most scandalous statements, when he spoke about drivers who accelerate their cars towards blockade participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Referring to an incident recorded in Loznica, when a driver “picked up” a man on a pedestrian crossing during a tribute to those who died in Novi Sad, Vu\u010di\u0107 claimed that the person blocking the street was at fault, not the driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You submit a request, the police do not approve your gathering, which means it’s forbidden, because the police cannot approve something that is illegal, and then you ask the police to help you when you face any problem while you are breaking the law,” Vu\u010di\u0107 said then, and then assessed that those who demand the arrest of the mentioned driver “are not conscious.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It was in Loznica, with some Fabia, someone jumped on his hood, because the man wanted to pass, and they say we should arrest the man who was driving the car. How can you arrest a man who did not break the law? The man was going his own way. Are you conscious? Wash your face with cold water, rub your eyes, get rid of the sleep in your eyes. You stood in someone’s way, told him – I won’t let you pass, the man passes, and you jump on his car,” said Vu\u010di\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be fair, this incident happened in Po\u017earevac, not Loznica, and such behavior is prohibited by law. The Law on Road Traffic Safety states, among other things, that aggressive driving is “conduct by a driver that is in gross contradiction with traffic rules, i.e., during which the driver shows no regard for the safety of other road users.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
